I was talking to a friend and we were watching a little toddler take some of his first steps.  His mother put him on the floor and watched him carefully as he balanced on his little feet and began to toddle forward.  She knew that he would not take off sprinting.  He was just learning to walk. After a few steps, he over balanced and down he came. But after a short while, he was ready to try again.

My friend said, "That is just like our Heavenly Father.  We are like toddlers in the Kingdom of God. We are just learning how to live this life in His Kingdom.  It's like God is standing there ready to catch us when we fall and need help, but he's letting us take some steps.

Line upon line, precept upon precept, we grow a little more. Testimony after testimony we are more sure of our footing.

For behold, thus saith the Lord God: I will give unto the children of men line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little:   II Nephi 12:36 / LDS II Nephi 28:30

He wants us to step out. We might teeter a bit. We might even fall. But He is right there to dust us off and help us try again. I think it's helpful to visualize our Father in Heaven loving us so much, like an earthly father or mother, encouraging us to take those steps toward Him. Can't you just visualize Him with His arms outstretched saying, "You can do it. Come closer. Just a little bit more!"
